Independent signals research.
Alongside our public threat-sensor network, fouo.io maintains an internal research track exploring passive, non-standard uses of everyday short-range and unlicensed-band radio technology — for detection, environmental awareness, and situational understanding in general-purpose signals-intelligence work. This is R&D, not a shipped product: the techniques below get combined differently depending on what a given project actually needs.
Bluetooth Low Energy
Passive advertisement and fingerprint analysis for device-presence detection at ranges and in environments well outside typical proximity or asset-tracking use, with no interaction with the devices observed.
WiFi
Probe- and beacon-frame analysis, including non-standard promiscuous capture, used for environmental awareness independent of any access point or client relationship — observation, not connection.
LoRa & Mesh Radio
Long-range, low-power backhaul linking distributed sensor nodes that sit well outside conventional cellular or WiFi coverage, so collection data can reach an operator far from where it was picked up.
Passive Radar
Bistatic and multistatic RF sensing that uses ambient illuminators already present in the environment — broadcast, WiFi, cellular — to detect and track objects by their reflections, without the sensor itself ever transmitting.
How we work
Every engagement here starts from the same constraint: fully passive collection, hardware chosen and firmware written for the specific problem rather than adapted from an off-the-shelf product. We don't publish the specifics of any one deployed system — the value is in the underlying technique, and in being able to reconfigure it fast for whatever the next non-standard signals problem turns out to be.
